Techkon SpectroEdge

SpectroEdge is an inline spectrophotometer that provides flexographic presses the ability to measure and report color reproduction data at production speeds of up to 1000 feet per minute. By enabling highly accurate color measurements and real time reporting, SpectroEdge will dramatically impact the flexographic print marketplace by increasing press run efficiencies and delivering previously unattainable consistency in color quality.

SpectroEdge represents a powerful enabling technology that marks a turning point in the flexographic print markets. Installed on a mechanical arm that traverses the web SpectroEdge reads color samples either at preset intervals or frequencies or via a hard-wired signal initiated by the printing press controller. It is capable of measuring color targets both in the direction of the print run as well as in the transverse direction across the printed page. SpectroEdge converts the raw spectral data to interpret the color values instantly and provide key color reproduction parameters to the press operator in real time.

Additional Information:

Technological Advantages include:

  • Fast, 3000 samples-per-second spectrophotometer scans with inline color measurement and reporting of 31 spectral bands
  • Simultaneous calculation and reporting of L*a*b*, LCH and status T&E densities from spectral measurements
  • Keeping pace with presses running up to 1000ft/minute, working reliably at variable speeds
  • Operating at 3mm height from media, accommodating .5mm change in distance
  • Embedded Linux computer operating system, enabling future development and expansion

Operational Benefits include:

  • Real time reporting of measured color values during a press run to indicate how a job is progressing
  • Consistent color reproduction for multiple runs of same printed product
  • Ability to measure color targets both in the direction of the press run as well as across the width of the printed page
  • Ability to monitor spot color and process color in the work
  • Generation of comprehensive color reproduction quality verification report for print buyer
  • Exacting color for offset color quality from flexographic presses
