Press Release Canon Introduces New 36 Inch imagePROGRAF iPF720 Printer with On-Board Hard Drive for Networked Workgroups
03.04.08, 9:05 AM ET Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of office imaging systems, inkjet technology and digital photography equipment, today announced a new large format printer ideally suited for multi-user workgroups - the imagePROGRAF iPF720 large format printer. This new addition to Canon's imagePROGRAF printer line-up is designed for printing Computer-Aided Design (CAD), GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) applications as well as any other technical document market. The Company will display the new imagePROGRAF iPF720 large format printer at the AIM/On Demand tradeshow in the Canon booth #1416.
Printing at 36 inches wide and built on the successful and proven-reliable iPF710 platform, the new Canon imagePROGRAF iPF720 printer is positioned as the flagship model in the Company's five-color large format printer family. Specifically targeting the large format technical document market, the new iPF720 printer incorporates a built-in 80GB hard drive ideal for medium to large workgroup users who need to print large files or sets of files from multiple workstations.
The addition of the large-capacity hard drive gives multiple users the ability to share a printer efficiently, allowing plots to be queued at the printer freeing up the host computer memory. The iPF720 printer not only accommodates multiple users who are accustomed to using hard-disk equipped workgroup printers, but also provides next-generation technology with blazingly fast printing speed at less than one minute (55 seconds*) to print an A0-sized full-density color plot (33.1 x 46.8 inches), 1200dpi high resolution printing with 0.02mm minimum line width**, precise +/-0.1% line accuracy***, and a large printing area with only 3mm of margins all around with roll feed paper.
"Large format printing and plotting requires specific tools, and compatibility to ideally sync with existing workflows, all while keeping print costs to a minimum and still producing stunning and accurate prints. It is with these customer interests in mind that we are proud to introduce the imagePROGRAF iPF720 large format printer," said Jim Rosetta, vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A.
In addition, its small footprint (less than 60 inches wide) allows the user to replace the existing 36-inch wide printer without rearranging the office layout. Designed specifically with CAD, GIS and AEC users in mind, the iPF720 printer supports HP-GL/2 and HP-RTL page description languages to ensure compatibility with virtually any technical document applications. The printer comes with the AutoCAD(R) imagePROGRAF HDI Driver (Windows only) and imagePROGRAF Printer Driver compatible with both Windows and Macintosh. The printer driver includes such innovative features as Free Layout which enables nesting of several smaller drawings or documents on a larger sheet. This feature saves both paper and the effort to lay them out manually.
After selecting "Print," the software's Real Preview feature provides the ability to modify print settings for last-minute adjustments or to correct potential layout errors through a real-time preview window. Additionally, the imageRUNNER Enlargement Copy feature lets users create a hot folder on their desktop to enlarge and print single- and multiple-page PDF documents created by Color imageRUNNER devices directly to the imagePROGRAF printer. This feature also works by dragging and dropping PDF files into the designated hot folder for enlarged printing.
As with the iPF710, the iPF720 printer includes an Economy Print Mode to produce draft prints on select media while significantly reducing the total ink consumption. This mode is ideal for producing quick check plots while minimizing the cost per print. The Economy Print Mode, Enlargement Copy and Real Preview features are all supported on both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
PosterArtist Lite
The iPF720 printer comes bundled with Canon's new PosterArtist Lite - an easy to use poster creation software. PosterArtist Lite gives users the ability to quickly and easily create professional large format prints without a complicated poster-making process. Users simply follow the program's four easy steps to create professional looking posters for in-house announcements, presentations, signs or banners. The PosterArtist QuickCopy feature transforms a user's CanoScan desktop scanner into an enlargement copier, allowing letter-sized flyers and documents to be quickly printed to full-size posters with a touch of a button. A built-in weblink feature connects PosterArtist Lite users directly to the PosterArtist website at www.usa.canon.com/posterartist for useful hints and tips, as well as free content downloads. For those with more demanding poster creation needs, Canon offers PosterArtist 2007 as an option, with more advanced features including more poster templates and royalty-free photos and clip art, Auto Design, Variable Data Printing, and advanced image editing features.
The five-color dye/pigment Reactive ink system includes four highly colorfast dye ink cartridges each containing 130ml**** and two 130ml cartridges of pigment-based matte black for longer uninterrupted print operation. Canon's ink formulation is designed for optimized print image quality on more than 20 types of Canon Genuine print media including bond paper such as Universal Bond, High Resolution Coated Bond for razor sharp line drawing and vivid graphic rendering, photo paper such as Glossy and Satin Photographic Paper in variety of weights for posters and presentations, and film such as Double Matte Film and Clear Film.
The imagePROGRAF iPF720 printer will be available through authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers in late April 2008, with a manufacturer suggested selling price of $5,395.

Bigger Is Better - Canon U.S.A. Introduces the New imagePROGRAF iPF9100 and iPF8100 12-Color Large Format Printers
Canon Makes a 'BIG' Move in Fine Art Photography Printing with the Introduction of the imagePROGRAF 60 & 44 Inch Printers -- Graphic Arts Online, 11/7/2007 3:53:00 PM
New York, October 18, 2007 - Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of office imaging systems, ink-jet technology and digital photography equipment, today unveiled two new imagePROGRAF 12-color pigment ink large format printers, the imagePROGRAF iPF9100 and imagePROGRAF iPF8100. These latest additions to the Company's imagePROGRAF line of large format printers will replace the imagePROGRAF iPF9000 and iPF8000 models, and incorporate an 80 GB hard drive, and the newly reformulated Gray, Photo Gray, Black and Matte Black LUCIA inks for enhanced monochrome prints. Canon will have both imagePROGRAF models on display at the Canon booth (#318) during the PhotoPlus Expo in New York City, October 18-20.
The new imagePROGRAF iPF9100 and iPF8100 printers utilize the Company's latest twelve-color ink system featuring Canon's proprietary LUCIA pigment inks including the four enhanced monochrome inks. The reformulated inks help the iPF9100 and iPF8100 reduce the occurrence of "bronzing," a phenomenon in which printed colors take on a metallic hue depending on the angle at which they are viewed. Canon's LUCIA inks help the imagePROGRAF printers achieve smooth natural image expression with minimal graininess, and better ink adhesion for improved scratch resistance.
Both the imagePROGRAF iPF9100 and iPF8100 printers, capable of 60-inch wide and 44-inch wide prints respectively, support next generation "Kyuanos" color management technology for Windows, to deliver output color suitable for different viewing conditions such as fluorescent lights, incandescent lights, or sunlight. Each model also includes easy-to-use color calibration to help ensure output color consistency and accuracy. The combination of Kyuanos and Canon's color calibration provides users with an easy solution to achieve consistent and accurate color output from print to print, and machine to machine, and also for various lighting conditions.
"We are proud of the imaging technology achievements engineered into our latest generation of imagePROGRAF large format printers. The reformulated monochrome inks, new print heads, and a large hard drive will help our customers achieve excellent print and workflow results," said Jim Rosetta, vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A.
These new additions to Canon's large format portfolio provide one of the industry's largest color gamuts with Canon's new 12-color inkset featuring LUCIA pigmented inks with Red, Blue, Green, Cyan, Photo Cyan, Magenta, Photo Magenta, Yellow, and reformulated Black, Matte Black, Gray and Photo Gray. The brand's proprietary L-COA controller processes high resolution files quickly and accurately. For the iPF9100 and iPF8100 models, L-COA's new intelligent screen dot pattern and precise ink drop control eliminate visible dot graininess to an even higher level than their predecessor's.
Both imagePROGRAF models use the Company's proprietary FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) print-head technology and dual print head design incorporating a total of 30,720 ink nozzles, (2,560 nozzles per color). The new print heads help the imagePROGRAF iPF9100 and iPF8100 achieve a maximum resolution of up to 2400 x 1200 dpi, while the new print head design includes an improved dithering pattern and uniform four picoliter droplet size. Each printer features automatic clogged nozzle detection to help reduce wear-and-tear on the print heads, and ensure excellent print quality throughout their long life.
The new iPF9100 and iPF8100 models feature the new imagePROGRAF Printer Driver 2007 with user-friendly features for both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. The driver also includes Digital Photo Front-Access, which is a software application that allows users to view and arrange multiple images from a digital camera and import them into multiple image editing software applications such as PosterArtist or Adobe Photoshop. The imagePROGRAF Printer Driver 2007 even includes a new Portrait Mode setting to provide the user with an easy and automatic adjustment with the contrast setting to provide a professional studio effect.
With Canon's portfolio of fine art and photographic media, the iPF9100 and iPF8100 printers will be key players in the realm of large format photographic printing for professional photographers and digital artists providing a total Canon-to-Canon capture to output solution. PosterArtist 2007 - sold separately - is also available for use with the new imagePROGRAF models to help make possible the easy creation of professional-quality posters and design layouts.
The imagePROGRAF iPF9100 and iPF8100 printers will be available through authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers in November 2007 with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $14,995 and $5,995 respectively. PosterArtist 2007 is available through authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $799.

''S'' is for Speed – Canon Introduces New imagePROGRAF S-series Large Format Printers for Production Environments
New Eight-Color Canon Large Format Printers Boast Up To A 40 Percent Increase In Print Speed Addressing The Needs Of Production Environments
GRAPH EXPO 2007
Booth # 2400
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of office imaging systems, inkjet technology and digital photography equipment, today announced the new imagePROGRAF S-series large format printers, providing exceptionally rapid print speeds for high-volume production environments. The S-series of imagePROGRAF printers will launch with two models, the imagePROGRAF iPF9000S and iPF8000S printing at 60- and 44-inches respectively. The new imagePROGRAF S-series printers will be on display at Graph Expo 2007 in the Canon booth, # 2400.
Canon’s imagePROGRAF large format printers are already known for their fast print speeds, end-user replaceable print heads, and high-quality images, and now the S-series raises the bar on speed and performance. Boasting up to a 40 percent increase in speed over the imagePROGRAF iPF9000 and iPF8000, the S-series printers can render an A0-sized print (32.5” x 40.6”) in 4.9 minutes1 in Standard Mode on glossy photo paper. Adding to the printers’ productivity is the ink sub tank feature which allows operators to replace empty ink tanks on the fly without interrupting the printing process. The imagePROGRAF iPF9000S and iPF8000S will allow production printers to produce more quality prints per day and help increase productivity for print shops across the country.
“Our research indicates that the top feature print service providers – who already have wide format printers – consider in new equipment purchases is greater print speed,” said Tim Greene, director, Wide Format Technologies, InfoTrends.
The new Canon imagePROGRAF S-series printers each feature a high-capacity 80 GB hard drive so printers can queue more print jobs without burdening networked computer systems. Another new feature of the imagePROGRAF S-series is media skew correction. The printer will detect when paper is not properly aligned and shift the media’s edge to correct alignment and ensure even prints, especially critical for labor-saving 4-sided borderless printing (up to 42” wide) to reliably print borderless printing with razor sharp precision. The printers also feature Kyuanos, a feature that allows operators to adjust print tones to various ambient light conditions to help provide favorable color under various conditions.
“In today’s digital world, printers are pressured to turnaround print jobs faster than ever before. The imagePROGRAF S-series is Canon’s answer to those client demands, allowing printers to produce jobs faster with outstanding quality and consistency,” said Jim Rosetta, vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A.
The new imagePROGRAF S-series printers uses a set of an eight-color LUCIA pigment inks with Cyan, Photo Cyan, Magenta, Photo Magenta, Yellow, Black, Matte Black and Gray ink tones. Using a dual print head system, the S-series printers employ 30,720 nozzles – the same number as the other Graphic Arts models – but using an eight-color ink set, the printers are able to employ up to 5,120 nozzles per color – the most nozzles per color in the industry.
The imagePROGRAF S-series newly developed eight-color ink system symmetrically arranges the nozzles for Cyan, Photo Cyan and Photo Magenta so that ink droplets of those three colors will be fired in the same sequence in both forward and reverse passes. The sequence of bi-directional printing for these three colors helps reduce subtle color variations that can come with ink firing sequences. This system allows for faster printing with fewer passes, and better color evenness.
With a maximum print resolution of 2400 x 1200 dpi, the new imagePROGRAF S-series is ideal for production print shops looking to produce posters, signage and display materials faster than ever before, as well as commercial printers, in-plant facilities, print-for-pays, tradeshow exhibit builders, and signage shops. The S-series still incorporates Canon’s advanced professional features such as built-in color calibration for color stability, automatic clogged nozzle detection and compensation for reliability; 330ml and 700ml selectable ink capacity sizes for versatility; and a large, backlit LCD panel for ease of use.
Canon’s new PosterArtist 2007 is available for purchase with imagePROGRAF large format printers. The Windows only software includes an Auto Design feature, where users simply designate images to be incorporated into a poster, and PosterArtist 2007 will automatically arrange the images into a poster template to create professional-looking posters quickly and easily.
The imagePROGRAF iPF9000S and imagePROGRAF iPF8000S printers are scheduled to be available through authorized Canon U.S.A. dealers in October 2007 with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $14,995 and $5,995 respectively.
